Support
Personalised support to help every member grow, thrive and live life on their own terms.
At The ARC Activity & Education Centre, support isn't just something we offer — it's at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every person deserves the right help at the right time, delivered with compassion, respect and a genuine understanding of their individual needs.
Our support services are designed to empower members to make their own choices, develop their independence and navigate the challenges that life can bring. Whether it's working through a personal development plan, accessing financial entitlements or making the move towards greater independence, our dedicated team is here every step of the way.
All support at The ARC is tailored to the individual — because we know that no two people's journeys are the same.
How We Support Our Members
Member Personal Development Plans
Every member at The ARC has their own Personal Development Plan (PDP) — a living document that captures their goals, aspirations, strengths and areas for growth. Created collaboratively with the member, their family and our support team, the PDP ensures that everything we do is working towards what matters most to that individual.
Plans are reviewed regularly so they stay relevant and meaningful, celebrating progress along the way and adapting as goals evolve. It's about building a clear, shared picture of where each person wants to go — and how we're going to help them get there.
Accessing Benefits & Grants
Navigating the benefits system can be confusing and overwhelming — but it's important that every member and their family receives every entitlement they're eligible for. Our team provides practical guidance and support around benefits such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Universal Credit, Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Carer's Allowance.
We can also help identify charitable grants and funding opportunities that may be available for specific needs, equipment or activities. We'll help with applications, signpost to specialist advice services and make sure no one misses out on support they're entitled to.
Person Centred Counselling
Emotional wellbeing is just as important as physical health. Our Person Centred Counselling service provides a safe, non-judgemental space where members can explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences with a trained and empathetic supporter.
Rooted in the belief that each individual has the inner resources to grow and find their own answers, this approach places the member in the driving seat of their own wellbeing journey. Sessions are confidential, flexible and adapted to each person's communication style and needs — whether that's through talking, creative activities or other means of expression.
Advocacy
Everyone has the right to be heard. Our Advocacy support helps members — and their families — to speak up, understand their rights and have their voice represented in meetings, assessments and decisions that affect their lives.
Whether it's attending a care review, a benefits tribunal or a healthcare appointment, our advocates can provide support before, during and after to ensure that each person's wishes are clearly understood and respected. We work alongside members, not instead of them — building their confidence to self-advocate wherever possible.
Transition to Independent Living
Moving towards greater independence is a huge milestone, and one that requires careful planning and the right support. Our Transition to Independent Living service works with members who are preparing to live more independently — whether that's moving into supported accommodation, managing their own home or developing the everyday skills needed for greater autonomy.
We work closely with the individual, their family and relevant agencies to create a transition plan that is realistic, positive and empowering. From cooking and budgeting to understanding tenancy agreements and building community connections, we help make the journey to independence a confident and supported one.
Our Approach to Support
Always Person-Centred
Every decision, every plan and every conversation starts with the individual. We take the time to truly listen, understand and work at a pace that is right for each member — not one that suits us.
Safe & Confidential
Members and families can trust that information shared with our support team is handled with the highest levels of care, professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
Whole-Family Approach
We recognise that families and carers play a vital role in the lives of our members. Our support extends beyond the individual — working with families to ensure everyone feels informed, involved and supported.
Focused on Growth
Our support is always focused on building skills, confidence and independence — helping members to achieve more over time rather than creating dependency. We celebrate every step forward, no matter how small.
